桃竹71線新埔鎮南下路段，週二（28日）中午一條6公尺寬的車道，路面突然崩塌，長度大約60公尺，深度超過一層樓深，初步懷疑，可能是柏油路底下的排水管線出了問題，大量雨水積在馬路底下的土壤，才導致路面塌陷。
堅固的柏油路面，從雙白線開始，南下路段整片崩塌，路面龜裂變形，柏油底下的土石裸露，陷落的高度將近一個成人這麼高，一路綿延65公尺。
其實半個月前，桃竹71線新埔路段這條柏油路才重新施工加封，怎麼會無緣無故突然崩塌，原因就出在連日豪雨，加上柏油路底下的排水溝渠，疑似有銜接問題無法順利排水，導致大量雨水不斷積蓄在馬路底下，加上一旁溪水沖刷，才讓路基無預警下陷。
其實不久前就有民眾反應，道路下方的排水孔沒有排水痕跡，懷疑雨水都積在馬路下沒有排出，原本縣府近期就要開挖改善，但計畫趕不上變化，不過幸好路面崩塌時，沒有人車經過，否則後果不堪設想。（民視新聞葉興凱新竹報導）
